Dr. Mike Igoe Biography

Mike Igoe is an Assistant Professor of Communication in the prestigious State University of New York system at its Fredonia campus (near Buffalo and Niagara Falls, New York). His areas of specialty are broadcast journalism, public speaking/ professional presentations, and media law. He earned his Juris Doctorate degree in law from the University of New Hampshire and is admitted to the New York State Bar as an attorney.

Dr Igoe has substantial experience teaching international students. In 2016, as part of the U.S Fulbright Foreign Specialist program, he taught at Hong Kong Baptist University in Hong Kong. He is the author of the book, Painless Presenting Made Easy and the co-author of the book, Blending East & West: Understanding the Changing Chinese Society.

Before he entered academia, Mike Igoe spent 30 years as a television consumer reporter. Over the years he received a number of significant awards for his work including several from the Associated Press.

 

Workshop 1: Interviewing: Getting the Facts, the Feeling & the Focus

Whether you’re a teacher or a student, interviewing will always be a part of your career. We’ll talk about how to do it more effectively and ways to maximize the information you gather. Professor Mike has extensive experience from interviewing people from all walks of life during his thirty years as a television journalist.

 

Workshop 2: Writing Right

You’ll learn how to improve your written English with strategies for making it clearer, more effective, overcoming common mistakes, and delivering a message that has impact!
